2018 sees the start of my Triathlon journey. I am excited by the challenge that Triathlon presents, particularly as I have never been a strong swimmer and as such will be operating far out of my comfort zone. My interest in Tri has been sparked by all of the fabulous journeys I have heard and read about across social media and it also seems to be a fantastic way to commit to losing weight (something that I could benefit from).
The beauty of Triathlon is the challenge it represents for me and that this challenge is always evolving, I can’t wait to embrace it.
Complete my 1st Triathlon (Novice Triathlon booked for 1st April 2018)
Complete Storm the Castle Duathlon (22nd April 2018)
Complete Race to the Stones in <24 hours (14th July 2018)
Complete my 1st Sprint Triathlon, event to be decided.
A Bit About Me
By day I am a mild-mannered Project Manager with a Master’s Degree in Veterinary Epidemiology and a PGCE in Secondary Science, whilst by night and at weekends I try to be the best husband and Daddy that I can be for my wife and young son.
I have always been in to sport and as such when not out training I can be often found watching various sports (Football, Rugby, Pro Cycling, Triathlon) on the TV.
But what of my sporting achievements? Well, I previously played 5-a-side football for a number of years until a cruciate ligament put paid to my Gerrardesqe career (yes for my sins I am a Liverpool fan). I have also been a runner for a number of years and have undertaken various 10km and Half-Marathons during this time but never approached anything like Marathon distances.
My biggest passion though is probably cycling, having been introduced to the joys of the Tour de France by my wife, (herself a big cycling fan) back in 2009. Since then cycling has become a big part of my life and I have undertaken a number of cycle related challenges both for myself and for charity. These have included, London to Paris, an attempt to cycle from Surrey to North Germany in 2015 (unfinished business, as injury waylaid my ride partner) and RideLondon in 2014 (the year of the crazy weather!) and 2015.
When it comes to food and drink I am rather partial to all of the naughty things in life, cake, beer, cake, whiskey, chocolate, chocolate cake ….. you get the picture! But my favourite style of food is Greek cuisine and I can often be found attempting to cook the perfect Moussaka or Kleftico to mixed success.
I am extremely excited by the year ahead as I take on the challenge of Triathlon for the first time and I can’t wait to represent Heart Sports and to share my journey with you all.
